Can Lionel Messi really leave Barcelona for another club?

Messi has won literally every trophy with Barcelona…the champions league,La Liga,Copa del Rey,Club World Cup and many more. Leo is also Barca’s all time goalscorer and topping nearly all records at the Camp Nou. So why don’t Leo leave Barcelona for another club after his numerous achievements? 

Many would say: Barcelona is the best football club,why leave? 

NZD: Barca no longer the best at the moment…the best is Liverpool.

Another group of fans may say: Which club can afford Leo?
NZD: For a very long time now,Manchester City are keen on signing Lionel Messi. PSG and Manchester United also have the financial muscles to sign Messi. Inter Milan might also fall into the category of group with massive revenues to sign the 6-time Ballon D’or winner. Would also be cool to see Messi play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus. 

For a decade now,Messi has been the focal point of Barcelona,he’s their creator and finisher on the pitch. Off the pitch,he’s also the major booster of the club’s market value. Having the greatest footballer comes with huge benefits. 

Messi’s influence at both club level and national level is unmatched. There are numerous myths like “Messi is Barca and Barca is Messi”. “Coaches consult Messi for his opinion on team selection”. “The board seeks Messi’s approval before bidding for a player”.

Myths like these give the idea of how influential Leo is at Barcelona. In recent years,when Messi doesn’t like a coach,the coach would be fired. When a board member complains about Messi,his position would be taken from him; except the just recent saga of Abidal vs Messi!

Club sporting director Eric Abidal,a former Barca player made his complaints about the players “being lazy” which annonyed Lionel Messi. But surprisingly,after the meeting with the board,Abidal still retained his position.

Messi has always hinted of his dream to retire at Barcelona,but with the club struggling at the moment,currently without Suarez and Dembele,still not brought back Neymar from PSG and knocked out of the last 3 semifinal stages of UCL woefully…..this might be the ideal time for Leo to join another club. 

But trust Barcelona board,they won’t let their most valuable asset leave “until a replacement is found”. The Catalan giants will ever be ready to improve Messi’s contract/wages whenever the Argentine has slight thoughts about leaving Barca.
