FOOTBALL: City knock Real Madrid out of UCL, double errors from Varane

Manchester City are through to the Champions League quarter-finals with a 2-1 victory over Zidane’s men. The citizens capitalised on two costly errors made by Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane; the first coming at just 9mins into the game: Courtois passing the ball to the Frenchman, Gabriel Jesus takes possession of the ball from the centre-back, squares the ball to Raheem Sterling to score into an empty net.

Karim Benzema at the 28th minute leveled for Los Blancos with a header, thanks to an assist from Rodrygo. Second half saw another error from Varane, who missed an initial header, tried to pass the ball back to Courtios…Gabriel Jesus once again taking advantage, intercepts the pass and scores a fine finish pass Courtois to seal quarter-final spot for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos who received a red card in the first leg, watched from the stands as his team crashed out. It finished: Manchester City 2-1 Real Madrid. (Aggregate: City 4-2 Real Madrid)
