FOOTBALL: PSG beat Lyon 6-5 on penalties to win the final Coupe de la Ligue trophy

Another domestic trophy for Paris Saint-Germain as the French giants defeated Olympique Lyon 6-5 on penalties to lift the final Coupe de la Ligue trophy.

PSG who were without Kylian Mbappe due to ankle injury, couldn’t find the back of the net in both normal and extra time. Defender Rafael saw red as Lyon were reduced to 10-men after his reckless foul on PSG winger Angel Di Maria. Icardi, Kurzawa and Thiago Silva were all taken off during the match…adding more injury worries for the French champions ahead of their UCL clash against Atalanta.

The shootout saw Keylor Navas save Lyon’s Bertrand Traore penalty, after 10 perfect penalties (from both clubs combined), PSG’s Pablo Sarabia then secured the trophy with his winning penalty. It finished: PSG 6-5 Lyon (Penalties)

The Super Cup, the French Cup, Ligue 1 title and now the Coupe de la Ligue trophy…making it four domestic trophies for PSG this 2019/20 season.
