Poetry Friday Line 49: GLANCE
GLANCE
Flipping through the pages of life
To fine success and the great papers
My flips going well till …
A black dot is spotted on my white page
My distraction begins from there
Many Claim it’s due to my time passages
The one in me says it lost
My spirit killed
Concentration looses its stand
My heart begins to beat
For a maiden who knows me not
The dilemma begins
Silly thought controls my brain
For I was hypnotised by love
And reality proves itself
True stories sounding fake
Love cages me
My heart lights out
Could this be love?
I spilt premature gills
I had fins I couldn’t swim with
My maiden drops an eye on me
Could this be love?
 Breeze of joy blows
As she finally says yes to me
My mission accomplished
Love is real.
– Isaiah Oduobuk
THE RECAP
I’m sorry for each heart’s injury I’ve caused you
Even the never appreciated
Sacrifice of tarrying your nights
To make me happy
Yet, what you get from me
Is a catapult of stone
Firing out heart breaking words
I wish I could be seeing the deepest
Of your heart
So I can be slapping my cheeks
Each time I make you cry
And for each painful hole I dig in you
I even also wish we are always
On the same bed
To see when I cause your smiling lips
To suddenly stick together
Just so, I could kiss them
And assure them a happy life again
But the immovable mountain called time
Suffers it not to be so
Dividing us
And placing us apart
That running into your tender body
For heat during cold hours is impossible
Nevertheless, I’m patiently waiting
For the time the apple will ripe
And be okay for consumption
Then will I rush it
Not minding it hotness
For my never satisfied thirst.
– Ikise Atabang
