Do football FANS support the CLUB or star PLAYER

Lots of people say *no PLAYER is bigger than the CLUB* but few footballers have that exception.
For a footballer like Neymar whom French giants Paris Saint-Germain paid a hefty sum of £200m for the Brazilian’s release clause from Barcelona,gave him a private jet, brought in his friend Dani Alves from Juventus for *no reason* and lots more. This player is no doubt bigger than the club. The question now is do football fans support PSG the club or because of Neymar the football player.

At Barcelona,there’s a Leo Messi. Every football club will love to have the Argentine play for them even if its just at the training ground. For years now,opposing clubs claim Barcelona is nothing without Messi,even Pique once said *when things are not looking well or the chips are down,give the ball to Messi*. With the addition of Suarez,Coutinho and co the overdependence of Messi seems to be reducing,considering how rivals Real Madrid were beaten 5-1 at the recent El Clasico. Imagine Lionel Messi leaves FC Barcelona, millions of dollars,sponsorships and fans will definitely go with him. Now that’s what happens when a football player becomes bigger than the club which brings my question again. *Do fans support Barcelona because of their tiki-taka attacking style of play or is it Lionel Messi?* Am sure Barca fans will say BOTH, only time will tell.

Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid is another situation to look at. Los Blancos lost 1.5m or more fans on social media automatically once the move became official while Juventus FC gained a million increase in fans and stock market on theirs. Fellow Madrid fans called these people *CR7 fans not Real Madrid fans*.

Can Chelsea let Eden Hazard join Madrid or do Chelsea fans love the club only because of the player?

There comes a time in every footballer’s life when the player becomes a brand himself even getting more attention than his club overall. This effect or change happens when the player becomes crucial to the club’s success not only on the pitch but off it too(Messi/Ronaldo/Neymar/Ibrahimovic/Pogba/Hazard/Ozil and a few more).
This factor also help mega brands like Nike,Adidas,FIFA,PES and many more determine whether or not to patronize a player because they observe if football FANS love a PLAYER because of his football CLUB or the other way round.
