RECAP 2017/18 Season of Europe Top Leagues

In this post,I’ll be looking only at the top five leagues in World Football(Europe). These five are the Barclay’s Premier League, La Liga,Serie A,Bundesliga and Ligue 1. Other upcoming Leagues include the Eredivise,Russian League,Scottish League and so on.

Spanish League is still the best league based on quality good football. Premier league is the second based on entertainment and competitiveness,SerieA is third based on in-depth strength and physicality, Bundesliga follows at fourth based on quality and fans support. Fifth on the list not last is Ligue1 or Neymar’s league based on entertainment and half field goals. For me the ligue1 is a motivating ground for Professional football beginners except you play for PSG,Marseille,Monaco or Lyon. This post is based on league quality only and other exclusive events that happened in each league.

Lets start from Spain: The Spanish La Liga was as usually about Real Madrid and Barcelona. These two Spanish giants have been dominating for the past 5 years. Barca appointing Ernesto Valverde as new coach;Los Blancos refusing to sign any new player which cost them the league and Atletico Madrid bringing back Diego Costa.

These clubs also contain the best quality players like Ronaldo,Messi,Suarez,Bale,Iniesta,Sergio Ramos,Sergio Busquets,Modric,Griezmann,Ter stegen,Kroos,Godin,Diego Costa,Oblak,Navas,Asensio,Coutinho and more. Spanish clubs in general have been dominating the European competitions. At least for once Jodi Alba Outplayed Marcelo as the best LB this season. Shocking moments in La Liga: when Leganes knocked out Real Madrid from Copa Del Rey and Levante defeated Barcelona 5-4 though the Catalan giants had already won the league.

Next in quality should have been Italy’s Serie A due to their strength in defense and aggressiveness. The likes of Juventus,Roma,Inter,Napoli,Lazio,AC Milan etc. But the Barclay’s Premier league showed their quality this concluded season. The Superb Manchester City with the likes of Debruyne,Sane,Aguero,David Silva under Pep, Liverpool’s front three: Salah,Mane and Firmino under Klop. Will Salah be a one season wonder?  No one knows! Harry Kane proved his critics wrong so can Salah, unless he runs to Madrid in the transfer window. About the PFA award, let me describe the journey in my own way: at the start of the season Kevin Debruyne was on fire,he got all the attention, immediately Coutinho moved to Barcelona,Salah stole the limelight while Harry Kane played catch up but could not make it. Salah then nailed it when Liverpool beat City both in the league and Champions league.

Another English club that improved in quality is Tottenham especially Kane,Son and Eriksen. Dele Alli underperformed this season for me. His only good performance was Spurs win over Madrid in the qualifying stages of the champions league. I also remember Dele been annoyed over his FIFA17 rating and promising to perform below expectation. Second place Manchester United performed decently under Mourinho. Sure many United fans were happy seeing Paul Pogba on the score sheet on numerous occasions. Lingard was also brilliant this season. Let’s not forget that Lindelof error. De Gea as usual, always exceptional. UEFA Europa league newbies Chelsea, the performance of the blues was expected. You can’t win the league back to back except you’re the former Manchester United with Alex Ferguson and Cristiano Ronaldo. Let’s Leave Arsenal out of this analysis. Arsenal has always been the same. According to reports Former Barcelona coach Luis Enrique is set to coach the gunners. Good luck to the incoming Coach. Finally Arsene Wenger leaves Emirate Stadium.

Third best league based on quality has to Serie A. For once the champions Juventus nearly lost it. Clubs like Napoli,Inter, Lazio threatened to spoil the party for the old ladies of Turin. Both Juve and Roma had unforgettable moments in the Champions league. Juventus experienced Ronaldo’s wonder goal and that frustrating moment when Madrid were awarded a penalty,Ronaldo converted and sent Los Blancos to the Semifinals against Bayern. As well as Buffon given an unimportant red card. On the other side Roma knocked out Barcelona, making outgoing club Legend Andres Iniesta cry, then lost to Liverpool in the Semis on aggregate, technically we all knew Roma were knocked out after the 1st leg. Let’s not forget Lazio’s Ciro Immobile,Juve’s Dybala and Inter’s Icardi exceptional performances this concluded season.

Next is Germany’s Bundesliga or also called “Bayern’s league”. You know its very funny to me. Best goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was injured, other key players like Robben,Boateng,Alaba also got injured yet the Bavarians still won the league. Their rivals Borussia Dortmund brought in a new manager, started the league well then crumbled as Bayern sacked Carlos Anchelloti. Since that change Bayern went flawless in the league except against RB Leipzig. Let’s not forget Joshua Kimmich perfectly handled his role as Phillip Lahm’s replacement. The youngster was also named Germany footballer of the Year.

Finally French Ligue 1: Though Monaco created a shock last season winning the league. PSG took Kylian Mbappe on loan and brought in Neymar for £200m. Neymar,Cavani and Mbappe played a big part each in returning the Ligue1 back to Paris. Let’s not forget that Neymar/Dani Alves vs Cavani saga. Well PSG’s main objective was the Champions league no wonder Former Dortmund Coach Thomas Tuchel was brought in to replaced the former Sevilla Manager Unai Emery. Marseille were also impressive to watch, the likes of Thuavin and Payet as well as Monaco’s Radamel Falcao,Lyon’s Fekir and Bordeaux’s Malcolm.

Hope you enjoyed my RECAP😊
